Tafti lab is composed of three parts: the synthesis lab, the crystallography lab, and the measurement lab. The synthesis lab hosts a variety of furnaces, fume hoods, and glove boxes to grow single crystals and synthesize polycrystalline solid materials. We have an exploratory approach and our vision is to search for new compounds. The crystallography lab hosts two x-ray systems for crystal structure refinements. We perform both powder and single crystal analyses with a variety of refinement protocols to solve the crystal structure of new materials. The physical measurements lab hosts a Dynacool PPMS for transport and thermodynamic measurements as well as a MPMS3 for magnetometry. In addition, we perform density functional calculations on Boston College cluster.
